Today’s Zinger:
Diversity Taken To The Extreme Is Chaos
Morning Briefing:
The President has brought racism back in focus in America. Racism knows no color. White on black, black on Latino, black on white, Latino on black, white on Latino, and the list goes on. The conventional wisdom is racism starts with deep seeded beliefs about someone based on their skin color. But is it racism that is causing this distrust or is it culturalism?
What does it mean to be American? What are the core values, beliefs and traditions that unite us? Today, many people from various ethnic backgrounds and religions want to hold on to their culture and even challenge those aspects of traditional American culture that they wish to change in order to allow for their own beliefs and traditions. There are those that even want to challenge English as our core language. Can you imagine someone in France pressing 2 for French?
The melting pot of America is in a steep decline, and its not racism that it at the heart of it.

My Opinion:
When a Cambridge, Massachusetts police officer responded to a potential breaking and entering complaint by a citizen, the owner of the home in question reacted to the police with a vicious verbal attack. Based on eyewitness reports and tape recordings of the episode, the officer responded appropriately and in accordance with police protocols. The homeowner, Professor Gates, a Harvard professor whose work focuses on African-Americans, verbally attacked the officer implying the officer was racist because the police officer was white and Professor Gates is black. The officer arrested Professor Gates for disorderly conduct.
Despite the inappropriate conduct of Professor Gates, President Obama has unintentionally created a national firestorm over racism in America. Both Professor Gates and President Obama exposed their own prejudice and bias in their response. People can control their emotions when things are going well, however, when people come under stress, their true character is exposed for all to see. In this case, both President Obama and Professor Gates exposed their racial biases.
It is time for all Americans to abandon racism. White, African American, American Indian, American Latino, etc. Maybe it is time to just become “American”.
Most people are culturalists, meaning they wish to associate with others that share similar values, beliefs and traditions. Historically, the United States was a melting pot of cultures. As different groups (Italian, German, French, Canadian, African, etc.) came to the United States they worked to fit in. While they held on to certain aspects of their cultural heritage, they adopted the values and traditions of America because they wanted to be “American”. Wars, national crisis and past hardships accelerated the amalgamation of cultures. Today, many people wish to hold on to their cultural differences, turning America into a nothing more than a platform for economic opportunity.
Today, what does it mean to be American? People forcing us to adopt to their language, idolizing those that disrespect women or reward time in prison, forcing America to remove all reference to God tears at the basic cultural fabric. All of this in the name of diversity. And while America celebrates its diversity, isn’t it time for America to decide what makes this country come together? Diversity taken to the extreme is chaos.
With all of the controversy over health care reform, Zinger will publish a special weekend edition on Friday (July 31). We will then return August 5.
